Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Missing iSync Application
When Mac OS X 10.7 Lion debuts this summer, it will be missing a few in-house developed applications, like Front Row, and according to more recent digging through the software’s code, iSync.

Privileged Lion testers are signaling that a fresh installation of OS X Lion comes without iSync, the utility that lets you synchronize the information on your computer with your bluetooth-capable devices.

How to Update to the new Mango Beta WITHOUT a Developer Account!

Want to update to the new Mango Beta that was just release for developers? Normally you would need to be a registered developer, but I've got your back on this one. We've figured out a way to update your device to Mango Beta build 7712! How do we know this works? We just did it ourselves and the photo you see above is the proof! This method is a lot easier than before when you had to flash your device, so if you've already gotten the old beta the hard part is mostly over. This is a cakewalk in comparison!

Note: This method requires the old Mango beta to be installed on your device already. This method is building directly upon Windows Phone Hacker's Jaxbot's method of updating to the old Mango beta. Please read that here before continuing.

Disclaimer:
Windows Phone Daily DOES NOT take responsibility if your device is bricked during this process. You are performing this update AT YOUR OWN RISK.

WARNING!
Despite this being a normal update similar to how your device updated to NoDo, there is ALWAYS a risk of bricking your device. So if anything goes wrong neither us or Microsoft can help you get a new or repaired device. Once again, this is AT YOUR OWN RISK

Download this zip file. It contains the new Zune Beta and the UpdateWP files.

Instructions (Read EVERYTHING carefully!):
  1. Use Jaxbot's previous method to update to the old Mango beta (click here). This will also create a backup NEEDED to get you back to retail software updates.
  2. After using Jaxbot's method, double check that you have your backup. It should be in C:\PreMangoState.
  3. CHECK YOUR BACKUP! Extremely important that it's there!
  4. Now download this zip file. This is absolutely necessary and includes these same instructions as well as the new Beta Zune client (different from the earlier beta), and the new UpdateWP file.
  5. While it's downloading, disconnect your phone from your PC and uninstall the earlier Zune beta software.
  6. Once the ZIP file completes downloading, extract its contents and you should see two things: a program called ZunePackage.exe and a folder called 'UpdateWP'.
  7. First click on ZunePackage.exe - this will install the new Zune client you need to update.
  8. Finish installing Zune. Don't open Zune yet if it asks.
  9. Go to C:\Program Files\Zune and look for two files: UpdateWP.exe and WM7Update.dll. DELETE both.
  10. Now open the 'UpdateWP' folder you extracted earlier. You should see two files: "UpdateWP (for 32-bit computers).exe" and "UpdateWP (for 64-bit computers).exe". Click on the one that corresponds to your desktop's operating system type (Read this if you're not sure).
  11. You should see a small window pop up and within five minutes it will disappear. Once it disappears, UpdateWP should have completed.
  12. Double check that it is done. Go to C:\Program Files\Zune and make sure you find two files: UpdateWP.exe and WM7Update.dll. DO NOT delete these - they are used to find the new update for your Mango Beta device.
  13. Connect your Windows Phone to your PC (Remember: It should ALREADY have the first Mango Beta installed on it, otherwise it won't work).
  14. Now open Zune (if it hasn't opened already) and let your device sync. If everything went according to plan, Zune should open a page with an Update dialog on it and tell you your phone has an update available for Build 7712. If you do NOT see this, make sure you followed all of the steps and that you have a working internet connection when you sync your device to Zune.
  15. Enjoy! :D

What's Changed in the new Mango Beta?

If you're like me, then right now you're sitting in front of your desk watching that download progress bar slowly cross from left to right. The second Mango beta is so close you can feel it, but sadly you're still waiting. What can you do in the meantime? Hunt around for what's actually changed in the new build of course! Here's what we've found so far from across the web (we'll add more as we find it).
  • The Windows Phone logo when the phone boots up has changed to match the same square design we spotted in the leaked video of the Nokia Sea Ray. [WMPU]
  • Obviously Twitter and LinkedIn integration have been added. Plus the Music+Video Hub is said to be much snappier,  [WMPU]
  • Another note about Twitter: photos shared on Twitter are automatically uploaded to a new folder in your SkyDrive account. [PocketNow]
  • WinRumors' Tom Warren has posted up a complete video guide to Twitter integration (watch above) [WinRumors]
  • The Visual Voicemail interface has been tweaked. [PocketNow]

Developers: New Build of Mango Beta released and New SDK

Thanks to a post from Cliff Simpkins over at the Windows Phone Developer Blog, it seems like those earlier grumblings were true: developers are receiving a Mango Beta update! There's a keyword there that you still have to remind yourself of -- Beta. Yes despite Microsoft RTM-ing Mango yesterday, this developer build of Mango is still pre-release software. However, Simpkins makes it crystal clear that this is as close to a Release Candidate of Mango as you're going to get. The biggest takeaway from that is it means the Mango APIs are "locked" and will not change from this build to the RTM build. So developers can now pour in 100% of their effort into their in-progress apps before August 22nd pops up on the calendar.

So how are you supposed to get this update? Well if you're an invited developer (who this was officially only ever meant for) then your phone will receive an update notice "over the next few days". If you're impatient and think your update could be ready, then head on over to the Microsoft Connect site where you can find all of the files you need to update. Here's a step-by-step penned by Mr. Simpkins himself:

The process to update your phone with build 7712 is pretty straight-forward:

  1. Make a copy of the backup you took when you updated to the Mango Beta 2 pre-release (which I’m sure you did) and put it in a safe place, if it isn’t in one already
  2. Return to Connect.Microsoft.com (we’re using the same program you were invited to join last month) and download the freshly posted files, which includes a new Zune client and a new UpdateWP executable
  3. Head to the Control Panel and uninstall the Beta 2 software (Zune client and UpdateWP) and tools (WPSDK) that you installed last month
  4. Install the new software and tools that you just downloaded from Connect
  5. Fire up the new Zune client beta (4.8.2134.0) to check for the new update
  6. Zune will then update your phone from 7661 to 7712

Of course, what's a new build without a new SDK? That's exactly what Microsoft has given in its new "Beta 2 Refresh" package of tools (the RC version will be available later in the month). Anyway, get started from the Windows Phone Developer Blog and read everything before going on to the update.

So are you guys excited for this pleasant little Mango-flavored surprise? You can practically see a new Windows Phone 7.5 device can't you?

XBL Deal of the Week: Parachute Panic

Xbox Live Deal of the Week gets you gaming on the cheap. Every Wednesday an Xbox Live game goes on sale and the discount stays in effect until the new Deal is released.

This week's Deal is Parachute Panic by FDG Entertainment. The game was released a little while back and was revered for its unique hand-drawn graphical style and addictive gameplay. That praise has held up with the game staying at a strong 4-star rating in the Marketplace from user reviews. Parachute Panic was already quite cheap before at $2.99 so an extra buck off the total is a nice bonus. Here's the official description of the game:

In this unique casual game, you must help an army of parachutists land safely in the boats. Beware the imminent dangers, such as the rotor blades of passing helicopters, sharks, thunder clouds and UFOs. The game contains beautiful hand-drawn graphics that give the game a stunning and distinctive look. There are also some comic animations when, for example, one of the skydivers breathes his last breath in a failed encounter with the enemy. Catchy acapella music and awesome sound effects enhance the game world. We had lots of fun creating this game and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Parachute Panic has dropped from $2.99 to $1.99 for the rest of the week. The standard free trial is also available.

Fujitsu IS12T running Windows Phone 7.5, name officially confirmed?

We noticed in the press release for the newly-official Fujitsu IS12T that the OS is in fact called Windows Phone 7.5. Then we spotted the above photo from Engadget and it also very clearly states the same name. Well it looks like it's finally time to retire the Mango codename because Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 is on its way!
