The application was initially launched for iPhone and BlackBerry devices, while Android users could only experience Ripple PhoneTag through an invitation from an iPhone or BlackBerry user.
Ripple PhoneTag is a location sharing mobile app that promises to privately and securely connect users with a simple text message.
In addition, the Ripple PhoneTag allows users to share their location in real time, engage in texting chats, and determine a meet-up location with turn-by-turn directions provided automatically by GPS technology.
“Now we are tapping into the Android market – which is 36% of all smartphone users according to a recent Nielsen report – and allowing them to initiate Ripple PhoneTag sessions,” said Kevin Miller, president and co-founder of Dublin, Ohio-based Ripple Mobile LLC.
The location sharing software offers users a comprehensive list of features and it managed to host a session with more than 100 people in the United States.
Ripple PhoneTag is developed around to existing and intuitive mobile phone functions, accessing a contact list and sending a text message and uses a patent pending Ripple Mobile technology.
According to Ripple Mobile, the application redefines how people stay connected in just three steps:
- Selecting friends from the contact list in a user's mobile phone;
- Sending a secure text message invite containing a unique URL link and wait for their confirmation;
- Connecting, chatting or determining a meet-up location.
Among other features offered by Ripple PhoneTag one can notice: Multiple Sessions, Groups, Directions, In app communication, Hide user's location, Social Integration, Meet up with friends, as well as Group communication.
Ripple PhoneTag is available as a free download via Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 or newer.
