Yesterday if you read the site, you'd know we were among the first sites to break news on the
surprise reveal of four new Mango-powered phones from Acer, Fujitsu, Samsung and ZTE that are presumably on their way with the rest of the second wave handsets. Later in the day
we analyzed the video more in-depth and spotted a few goodies while giving impressions, and to say we're excited about the future of Windows Phone hardware is beyond an understatement. Well it turns out the manufacturers also found it to be a surprise, as we've now heard from a few sources saying Microsoft is attempting to silence coverage on the "leak".
WinRumor's Tom Warren and
WPCentral's Daniel Rubino both mentioned via their Twitter account last night that Microsoft wasn't exactly clear to fly when it showed off the four Mango-lovin' phones on the horizon. So far we haven't heard any complaints from Microsoft, but that may just be because we're a
tiny tiny tiny enthusiast site without the real pull of anything more legitimate like
WinRumors and
WPCentral. Still, it's funny to think manufacturers can control the leak since it came from an official source and has already reached major tech publications. It's also interesting that Microsoft went ahead with the reveal when it's clear they didn't have the go-ahead. Perhaps Microsoft was too excited and wanted something to show at their Worldwide Partners Conference, but it was more likely a miscommunication between them and the OEMs.
We wonder if we'll get slapped with a request soon considering we did that whole in-depth thing. Stay tuned for the unexciting legal conclusion shortly!
