Download New Mailplane 2.0.1 with Text Clippings Support, More

Gmail in a dedicated desktop application

Developer uncomplex gmbh has updated Mailplane, its mail client application that lets Gmail users access their email through an intuitive interface. The new release adds text clipping support, AppleScript and mailto: link support, Russian translation and more. A 30-day trial version of Mailplane is available for free download.

According to the app's maker, users can now drag selected text to their desktop to create text clipping. Those who employ Mailplane can also drag the text clipping to their email composition to insert it, whereas older versions of Mailplane would include the text clipping as an attachment file. Another restriction found in older versions of Mailplane was the shortened body text when using mailto: URLs or AppleScript. This restriction has now been removed, according to uncomplex.

To support Picasa, the AppleScript dictionary has been streamlined to better mimic Mail.app, the changelog continues. Russian translation has been improved considerably, and even a keyboard shortcut (command+Z) is now fixed. The developers were also able to fix an issue where the unread message counter didn't work correctly when used over a slow Internet connection.

About Mailplane
Mailplane is a tool that makes Gmail recognize Mac-specific fonts and features. Those who use both Google's email client but also a Mac will love using Mailplane, as it brings Google Mail's SPAM protection, endless storage and global access, and the UI-friendliness of your Mac. Because Mailplane uses Growl, it lets you know you have new mail the instant it arrives. Also, Mailplane shows a Growl notification when someone wants to chat. The Google Talk Gadget is then displayed in a separate window, offering Video/Photo Preview and other features.

The tool can also be set to play a sound when new items arrive, and to show the number of unread messages in the application icon. Mailplane's iPhoto plugin allows users to send pictures from iPhoto by selecting their photos and pressing the email button.
