Does Safari in iOS 5 Defeat IE9 in Mango in HTML5 Test? We Don't Think So.

Along with the publishing embargo lifting last night for the Mango preview build members of the press were able to play with, we've discovered quite a few small but important changes. Well apparently since the iOS 5 Gold Master released a few weeks ago, people have also noticed some changes. Recently its come to our attention that Safari has significantly improved in the HTML5 speed reading test it was previously embarrassed by at MWC and later again at MIX, jumping up from 2-3 FPS to a whopping 31 FPS average. That's truly impressive work by Apple considering their desire to lead the charge for HTML5 instead of Flash.

Based on this news WinRumors made a simple observation: Safari in iOS 5 is now superior to IE9 in Mango. That would have been true, except that Microsoft hasn't been resting on its laurels either. According to TheNextWeb, Internet Explorer 9 in Mango has leaped from the 27 FPS average we saw earlier to a monstrous 41 FPS which is truly incredible. Microsoft has some kind of special sauce in its hardware acceleration that Apple doesn't apparently, and it looks like the champion of web browsers is going to be remaining at the top with Mango's release.
