Nokia CEO Stephen Elop talks about the "war of ecosystems" at Qualcomm's Uplinq 2011

Earlier this month, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop delivered a presentation at Qualcomm's Uplinq developer conference. This was a pretty big deal as Nokia was previously on rocky terms with the Snapdragon makers. Elop's appearance at a Qualcomm event like this is a good sign that the companies have put their differences aside in order to work with Microsoft on Windows Phone. So what did the controversial Nokia CEO talk about while onstage? He spent most of his time circling around the idea of the mobile device landscape changing and what Nokia was forced to do in order to keep up. Here's a few key quotes from his talk and you can watch the rest of the video highlights below:

"Fundamentally we belive that what has happened over the last couple of years is there has been a shift from a battle of devices to a war of ecosystems."

"We have today over 1.3 billion people using our mobile devices but the trends have been shifting in the smartphone business. As a result we recognized we had to go through the same transition, the same transition from a device battle to an ecosystem battle."

"What we found in the conversations with Microsoft is that there is a remarkable symmetry in our relative strengths and weaknesses, the assets and capabilities that we have in our companies. We could have a unique point of view relative to Android, relative to Apple, that we had something we could do to truly change the marketplace in the eyes of our consumers."
