We told you it was coming soon and now the official Evernote app for Windows Phone 7 is going to be available in the Marketplace later today. The news comes from the official Evernote Blog and even though the app isn't up for grabs yet they dropped a ton of details on us. For being a version 1.0 product, the app is packed to the brim with features Evernote diehards are going to love while sticking very faithfully to Metro calling this app, "unlike anything you’ve ever seen from Evernote." Enough with the tease--let's get to it:
- The app's main panorama is broken down into four pivots: Notes, Notebooks, Tags, and Recent. The appbar is also prominently featured across all screens of the app to allow users' the ability to jump into settings from anywhere.
- Notes will support text input as well as multiple picture attachments and voice recordings.
- The Snapshot feature allows you to jump directly into the camera from the home panorama. Once you take a picture a note is automatically attached to it in the app.
- Full support for Note Searching in case you've been extra busy using the service and didn't exactly keep things in order. You're also allowed to save searches in order to save yourself some time later.
- Note Mapping is another integrated feature that makes full use of the Bing Maps API. The feature allows you to see where you created a note on a nice quick map. Of course, location saving is optional in the app and it must be turned on in order to use the feature.
- Sharing is another important feature to Evernote and they've covered the basics here. You have the option to either send out an email to your contacts with the note or you can take the more social route and post it to Facebook.
- Premium features are available for those who subscribe to Evernote Premium and includes a big feature: downloading entire notebooks. Then you can save them on-device and use them even without a data connection in the app.
- Offline viewing is also available for any notes you've created or viewed with the app. This applies to all users, not just Premium.
Personally we think note taking apps make perfect sense for smartphones and OneNote is easily our most used Office app. However it isn't perfect and Evernote is offering a larger number of features to both free and paid users of the service. If you always needed a note-taking app but OneNote hasn't cut it for you, make sure to keep an eye out for Evernote once it's released later today. For more screenshots remember to check out the official Evernote Blog.
Update: Users have reported that the app, which is available now, has an issue when first logging in and it's apparently triggered when using cellular data. Evernote has released a workaround method and all you have to do is uninstall the app, then use Wi-Fi to download and reinstall it. Then make sure to sign in or sign up via Wi-Fi and once you're done with that you can use cellular data without issue. Enjoy and if you haven't yet see it in the Marketplace by clicking on the tile below:
