Mosaic by Tribune updated with better performance

Mosaic by Tribune had a lot of hype and support around it when it debuted a few months ago on Windows Phone alongside a Windows 7 client. Unfortunately, that excitement was quickly met with disappointment as the app struggled to keep up with its unique looking interface resulting in a lot of choppiness and a lot more unhappy users. But it looks like Mosaic's fortunes may have changed, as the troubled app received an update last night which brings along a big performance increase. Testing out the app for ourselves, it does appear much smoother than before and a few user reviews back up our impressions, but it's still not as smooth as it could be. For those of you who missed out on the release of Mosaic, here's the description to catch you up:

Mosaic by Tribune is a beautifully designed, constantly evolving window on your world, tailored to your passions and always up to date. Start with aggregated content from Tribune's own world-class news operations, including the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and many others. Customize it to your interests by integrating RSS feeds from other major news organizations and blogs. Browse the latest news and explore topics in-depth. Mosaic by Tribune constantly monitors your news feeds and selects their content based on your interests and GPS location. Presented as a "mosaic" of stunning photographs — tap to get the headline, tap again to get the story.

With better performance, a great main UI and the ability to add your own feeds all entirely for free, it's impossible to call it a bad deal. You can pick it up in the Marketplace by clicking on the tile below.
