Mango Preview Event: New People Hub Confirmed with Chat, Integrated Photos, Groups, Twitter, and more

There are a ton of new features being added to the People Hub. How do we know that? Because that part of the presentation this morning took about a third of the total time, that's why!

First up Mango will be including support for Groups, which is going deeper than just acting as a folder. If you group contacts together all of the information is like a melting pot and you get to see all of the contacts' photos, status updates, history, and more. Plus you can pin any Groups to the Start page.

Next up is what Microsoft is calling Threads, which ties into the People Hub's new ability to view History. No, I didn't mean Call History, I meant History which is a cool new pivot area in the Contact card which shows you basically every interaction you've done with that person including texts, emails, calls, visual voicemails (!) and instant messages. Yes, built-in IM support for Facebook Chat and Windows Live Messenger is coming in Mango and the ability to switch between text messages, chats, and emails at the press of a button in the Appbar is what Threads really are. Also during the Threads demo, they also showed off a new and improved keyboard which will now do 'smart prediction' and figure out what word should follow what you wrote. So for example, when the presenter typed 'Happy' and started typing a new word with the letter 'B' the keyboard predicted he was trying to write Birthday and it was the first choice. Very cool.

Finally Mango will be adding Contact Pictures as another new pivot in the People Hub, which is a feature we always thought should've been around in order to beef up the Facebook integration. Speaking of Facebook, Pictures can now also be tagged thanks to new Facial Recognition software in Mango.
