ZTE Launching First Windows Phones by 2012

In a talk with Reuters, ZTE's CEO for the United States, Cheng Lixin, talked about the company's future plans. As you may already know, ZTE along with Acer and Fujitsu joined Microsoft as hardware partners for Windows Phone Mango. Lixin mentioned that ZTE's plans for their first Windows to be released by early next year, which means we may not see the Chinese manufacturer's devices among the Mango launch lineup this Fall from confirmed manufacturers like HTC, LG and Samsung. But what are the possibilities of seeing a ZTE phone here in the States, where the company has been absent among the "big four" carriers' lineups? Lixin had this to say:

"Phone carriers in the U.S. have expressed a lot of interest and we've said that we'll support Mango. We'll likely see Mango smartphones early next year," the Texas-based executive said.

Lixin also went on later to say that they were working on their first LTE devices, and adding that to Microsoft's commitment to bring 4G Windows Phones to market with Mango means ZTE could be among the first manufacturers to release them. ZTE seemed to us like a smaller manufacturer and we didn't think much of their partnership with Microsoft, but then we found out that ZTE is actually the fourth largest phone manufacturer in the world. The Chinese manufacturer only ranks behind Nokia, Samsung, and LG in the industry and even managed to beat Apple. Looking at that list, Microsoft has snatched support from four of the top five phone manufacturers in the world so even if the U.S. never sees a ZTE Windows Phone you can bet they will sell well in other markets across the world.
