Steve Ballmer Promises "500 New Features" in Mango, Puts Our Bingo Sheet to Shame

Man...and we thought the 14 features we included in that big, pretty Mango Rumor Bingo sheet for all of you to play with alongside tomorrow's event was a lot. During a presentation at the Japanese Microsoft Developer Forum 2011, Steve Ballmer talked everything Microsoft which includes Windows Phone. During his pep talk, Ballmer promised over "500 new features" in the Mango release later this year. The number of leaks and confirmed features we've seen in Mango so far might feel like 500, but Ballmer is actually promising a real 500 which is, uh, a lot. You can watch the video from WMPoweruser past the break (starts at the 43 second mark), but the quality isn't great so we've copied down the entire Windows Phone-related section for you to read:

We came to market with Windows Phone about out a year later than I wished we had. Shame on us. But we're moving forward very actively. We launched Windows Phone last November, we've done a set of upgrades. We have a release that will come to market later this year in Japan. Not only is it a new release, it is now much more global but we've added over 500 new features to Windows Phone. We have a big launch event to talk about the next release of Windows Phone tomorrow, so that information will be forthcoming including some of the particulars about who's going to be building Windows Phone, and which carriers will be offering them here in Japan.

Yes, Ballmer also teased new information about handset manufacturers and carrier relationships. However don't get your hopes too high -- Ballmer specifically referenced Japan, and Engadget says they have it on good authority that we won't likely be seeing any new hardware at tomorrow's preview event.

Are you psyched for over 500 new features in Mango?
