Rumor: 9 New Windows Phones Set for May 24th Event?

WMPoweruser called their latest tip 'tasty', and we're inclined to agree if we do see delectable new hardware running Mango. Thanks to an anonymous tip, WMPoweruser has found out that Microsoft is set to unveil nine new Windows Phones at this Tuesday's Mango event and the mysterious figure also detailed exactly which manufacturers are behind Microsoft with their second wave:

According to him/her we can expect around 9 devices to be announced – 2 from HTC, 2 from Acer, one from Dell (the Dell Wrigley) and a massive 4 from Samsung,  some of which resemble the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Word of two shiny new toys from the previously absent Acer and the four from Samsung are great news. We already knew about two HTC mid-range devices from a little while back, and about the Dell Wrigley which made an appearance in a leaked product roadmap (and suggested a Summer release). Just by looking at Dell's and HTC's rumored offerings, could we be seeing the impending launch of Microsoft's midrange strategy? The Qualcomm 7x30 chipsets found in the new Chassis 1 specifications announced at MIX '11 have been in midrange phones since last November, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think they could launch first.

That being said, the tipster claimed these handsets may not be released after the May 24th event, but instead held on to until the rumored Fall launch. While disappointing if true, it makes sense considering one Samsung Windows Phone will be similar to the Galaxy S2, which is a bleeding-edge high-end device in the Android world. However, we're inclined to believe that the midrange handsets from HTC, Dell, and others will release this Summer but likely without Mango preloaded. Sadly, all of this is speculation and goes with the word of a completely anonymous tipster, so take it with a grain of salt.

Do you think Microsoft will announce new Windows Phones this Tuesday? If so, do you think they will come with Mango? Tell us in the comments below!
