Mango Preview: Windows Phone Marketplace Expanded to New Countries, Web-Friendly Version in the Works

Besides announcing the release of the Mango Development SDK later today, the Windows Phone Developer Blog also went into big Marketplace changes that we can see in action soon. First of all, the Mango Marketplace will be expanding from 16 countries to a strong 35, and each new country will include local support for app submissions and app purchases. To see if your country made the list, see it in full after the break below.

Next up is big news that a web browser version of the Marketplace will launch alongside Mango later this year. So finally those Mac users previously left out in the cold will have a pretty decent option for finding apps for their Windows Phones come Fall. We don't know much specifics, but we can assume that it will be similar to the way Zune.net and popular Marketplace alternatives like WP7AppList work. Speaking of Zune, we're not exactly sure if the new web-based Marketplace will include the ability to purchase and download music, videos, or podcasts yet. One thing the post did confirm is that users can "buy/download apps and games from any PC and send them directly to their phones." It sounds like Microsoft is planning to take Android's Market website head-on in terms of functionality. Judging from all of this, it looks like the Mango update will be more than meets the eye.
