Addressing all its “outstanding and good-lookin' customers,” Freeverse explains on its blog that “Apple released a new version of OS X, 10.7 Lion.”
“This new version includes awesome new features and technology, representing all we've come to expect from our favorite fruit company,” the gaming studio notes.
“We here at Freeverse have been focusing on creating fantastic mobile games like Fantastic Fish, Skee-Ball and Flick Fishing. Of course with said focus on mobile games, some of our Mac titles have not gotten the attention that we would have liked to provide them,” says the company.
“Rather than leaving our customers with a sub-par experience running certain titles under OS X Lion, and in light of phasing out our GameSmith service later this summer, we've made the hard decision to discontinue the following titles,” Freeverse is said to inform its fans.
The discontinued titles are: Airburst; Burning Monkey Casino; Burning Monkey Mahjong; Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab; Burning Monkey Solitaire; Enigma; Periscope; Squabble; ToySight; 3D Bridge; 3D Crazy 8s; Euchre Deluxe; Hearts Deluxe; Pitch-Setback; Spades Deluxe; CrossCards; X-Words Deluxe.
Although it chose to phase out these games from its inventory, Freeverse pledges to continue to provide support for these titles running on versions of OS X prior to 10.7 Lion (i.e. Snow Leopard, Leopard, Tiger).
To take away some of the pain, Freeverse is proud to confirm that they have several new announcements in the pipeline, involving “some great titles […] that we think you'll love,” the studio admits.
Freeverse is not the only gaming studio forced to inform fans of certain incompatibilities with OS X Lion.
Aspyr Media, the company whose portfolio of Mac video game titles eclipses that of Freeverse and other studios, confirmed last week that several of the games it sold would not work on Lion.
While not discontinued, games like Medal of Honor: Allied Assault War Chest, Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, and many others distributed by Aspyr have been confirmed as unsupported on Mac OS X 10.7.
