Rumor: Microsoft to Purchase Nokia's Mobile Division

We already knew that Nokia and Microsoft were getting cozy with each other, but we didn't know they were ready to go all the way! Rumors abound that Microsoft could be planning to acquire Nokia's mobile division. The source of the rumor? The Twitter account of Mobile-Review's Eldar Murtazin, the go-to spoiler king of all of Nokia's plans. Murtazin gave us the first word of the Nokia W7 and W8 and also accurately predicted that Nokia would join Microsoft in a Windows Phone partnership.

However, Nokia UK's Communications Director, Mark Squires, doesn't seem happy about the gossip Murtazin is spreading. Via his own Twitter account, Squires released this comment on the rumor:

We typically don’t comment on rumors. But we have to say that Eldar’s rumors are getting obviously less accurate with every passing moment.

In case you need a little help understanding how hard Squires just burned Murtazin, you can use this helpful chart. For the rest of you, join me in saying: oh snap! Well Eldar wasn't going to take that lying down and so he took to his personal blog to unleash his own burn-tastic response. The article wasn't translated well by Google, so we won't quote it here, but it's well worth the read.

Moving past the drama, what do you think about this rumor? Should Microsoft pick up Nokia as a nice little gift for itself, or do you think they should stay out of the hardware game and let OEMs run the show? Sound off in the comments below!
